Halloween und Pumpkin Festival Half Moon Bay –
Jetzt zu Halloween haben unsere Kinder ihre Kreativität auch wieder an zwei Kürbissen ausgelassen :-), das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen und schmückt jetzt unsere Eingangstür:
Beim Aushöhlen kamen mir die Erinnerung an unseren Ausflug zum Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay während unserer Hochzeitsreise im Oktober 2004. Der aufmerksame Leser wird es wissen, unsere erste Station war damals San Francisco und von dort sind es ca. 45km südlich nach Half Moon Bay. Wir hatten uns für die letzten beiden Tage in San Francisco einen Mietwagen reserviert und sind dann von der Golden Gate Bridge auf dem Highway No. 1 direkt am Pazifik Richtung Süden. Auch im Oktober eine wunderschöne Fahrt mit tollen Ausblicken auf den Pazifischen Ozean, der ein oder andere Surfer ist auch noch zu entdecken.

Das Pumpkin Festival gibt es jetzt (Stand 2013) schon seit 43 Jahren (Offiziell Art & Pumpkin Festival) und ist auch überregional sehr bekannt (der ein oder andere Reiseführer erwähnt das Festival in Half Moon Bay). Ähnlich wie zu Weihnachten, werden die Vorgärten intensiv geschmückt und allein eine Fahrt durch die Nachbarschaft macht schon viel Spaß.
Vor dem Ort finden sich zahlreiche Felder mit freien Verkauf der Kürbisse, Pooh hat es sogar geschafft ein kleines Exemplar mit nach Hawaii nehmen zu dürfen.
In der Innenstadt von Half Moon Bay sind dann zahlreiche Verkaufsstände aufgebaut und man kann ganz untypisch für die USA, wie in einer Fußgängerzone, entlang schlendern und sich in Ruhe die einzelnen Stände anschauen. Highlights sind hier die Kürbis Ausstellung und natürlich der jährlich größte Pumpkin 🙂

Ein Foto am/auf dem größten Kürbis darf dann natürlich auch nicht fehlen und soweit ich mich erinnern kann ist dieses sogar kostenlos.
Dies war ein wirklich toller Ausflug und nach den ersten Tagen direkt in San Francisco eine schöne Abwechslung die uns sehr in Erinnerung geblieben ist. Jedes Jahr wo wir jetzt mit den Kindern auch Kürbisse bearbeiten, denken wir an das Pumkin Festival in Half Moon Bay. Wer sich im Oktober in der Gegend um San Francisco aufhält, dem kann ich nur einen Ausflug zum Art & Pumpkin Festival empfehlen. Ein paar Infos können hier gefunden werden:
