Today we continued working on the modifications for our red Land Rover Discovery — the one that will carry us all the way to Africa and stay behind in Gambia for a good cause. One of the biggest tasks this weekend was finishing the roof rack setup, and we finally got it done.
We mounted the older roof rack from our grey Discovery onto the red one, and it fits perfectly since it’s the same model :-). After making careful adjustments and securing the support bars, the entire structure is now stable and ready for the journey ahead.
Since Pooh was away at a training course this weekend, our son stepped in and helped with the work. It was great to have him involved — another small family effort behind this big adventure.
With the roof rack now in place, the top‑side modifications are essentially finished. Tomorrow, the focus will shift to the rear lights, specifically ensuring that the reverse light is properly connected and synchronized with the gearbox signal. Once that’s done, we’ll wrap up this weekend’s tasks.
It’s exciting to see everything coming together, and we’re looking forward to what’s next on our preparation list.
