This week brought a mix of technical fixes, tent equipment testing, and medical preparation — but most importantly, real progress.

A New Tent, a New Attempt — and Success at Last

Our new tent finally arrived, and despite the persistent winter conditions outside — snow on the ground and temperatures too cold for comfort — we gave it another try indoors.

This time, everything worked flawlessly.

Within minutes, we had the tent unpacked and fully set up. No struggling, no frustration, no mystery poles refusing to cooperate. Even packing it down again was quick and easy. With that, we can confidently check “tent” off the preparation list.

Cold Hands & Rear Light Fixes

Viator spent the afternoon working on the reverse light and finishing the wiring for the LED bar.
Even in the cold carport, with fingers slowly going numb, he managed to complete the job — though tracking down a blown fuse cost him a bit of extra time. But in the end: success. The lighting setup is now fully functional and ready for the road ahead.

Testing Hot-Water Equipment

Meanwhile, Pooh tested several portable water boilers inside the car to find the most reliable model for quick hot-water meals during the rally. After trying different options, she found one that works efficiently and safely — another important item sorted.

Roadbook Arrival (PDF Version)

This week we also received the Rally Roadbook, for now as a PDF via email.
Even without the printed version, it’s exciting to finally look through the stages, checkpoints, and outlines of the journey. The full paper edition will follow later, but the digital copy already gives us a solid understanding of what lies ahead.

Vaccination Updates at the Tropical Medicine Institute

We also visited the Tropical Medicine department at the university clinic for a detailed vaccination consultation. Our last trip to East Africa was about ten years ago, so most of the essential vaccines — including Yellow Fever — were still covered, but some boosters were overdue.

After an extensive consultation, we received the first updates immediately, with two more appointments scheduled.

A Productive Week Despite the Winter Chill

Between tent testing, electrical fixes, equipment trials, roadbook review, and medical preparations, this week was packed — and productive.
Step by step, our Discovery and our rally readiness are coming together.

The countdown continues.
