A Gentle Farewell Morning

With our suitcases finally packed, today marked the end of our journey. We started the day in a very relaxed way, enjoying one last breakfast under the open sky, next to the small fountain that had become such a familiar place over the past days.

The hotel kindly granted us a late checkout, knowing that our flight back to Europe wouldn’t depart until the evening. This allowed us to spend our final hours exactly the way we needed to — resting by the pool, walking along the beach, and soaking up the warm Gambian sun one last time.

Saying Goodbye at the Hotel

By now, we had become familiar faces at the hotel. Several staff members came by to ask again about the rally and the auction. At the pool, I showed one of them photos and videos from the journey — desert, borders, auction day — which he watched with genuine excitement and joy.

It felt good to share a glimpse of what this whole adventure had been about.

The hotel also organised our airport transfer, making the final logistics easy and stress‑free. At 4:30 p.m., we climbed into the car — a little sad, but also grateful — and made our way to the airport.

Leaving Africa

As expected, the airport was lively and a bit chaotic, but everything worked smoothly in the end. Check‑in, passport control, and security all went without issues.

Together with Team Flinke Fenneks, who were on the same return flight to Brussels, we waited for boarding. The flight itself was uneventful, with a short stopover in Dakar, Senegal, before continuing on to Europe.

Back in Europe — And Home

In Brussels, it was time to say a final goodbye to Team Flinke Fenneks, who continued their journey on to Dresden, while we headed toward our final destination: Hamburg.
We will definitely stay in touch — friendships like these don’t end at the airport gate.

At Hamburg Airport, the most beautiful moment awaited us: our two children were there to welcome us home. The reunion was joyful, emotional, and grounding — the perfect ending to weeks on the road.

Looking Back

With that, our rally and journey to The Gambia has truly come to an end.

We have seen and experienced so much — challenges, kindness, exhaustion, beauty, chaos, friendship, and purpose. It will take time to really process everything we’ve been through. For now, Easter is just around the corner, and the coming weeks will give us space to reflect more deeply on what this journey has meant.

Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way.
We hope you enjoyed reading our blog entries as much as we enjoyed writing them.

Until the next adventure.

Team Insanire
